Update as of March 2026
AN UPDATE ON THE REORDERING AT ALL SAINTS CHURCH
The proposed changes at All Saints Cressing arise from a deep love for this much-loved and historic building. We recognise how much affection there is for its character, particularly the pews, and we have listened carefully to concerns about their complete removal. In response, we have sought a thoughtful compromise: some pews will remain, preserving the beauty and heritage of the space, while allowing greater flexibility for worship and community use. Our intention is not to erase the past, but to steward it wisely.
For church buildings to flourish, they must be able to serve the realities of our changing lives. God remains the same - yesterday, today, and forever - but the ways in which people gather and build community have developed over time. The use of church buildings does not need to remain in the Middle Ages in order to honour ancient faith. Rather, we are called to ensure that what we have inherited continues to serve God’s mission today.
The installation of a toilet, the raising of part of the floor to improve disabled access, improved heating, and the addition of a small kitchen are practical changes, but they are also deeply missional. They enable us to offer welcome with dignity, ensure the building can be used comfortably throughout the year, and create opportunities for hospitality and fellowship. Removing half of the pews will allow for a seating area with comfortable chairs and tables, encouraging people to stay, talk, pray, and share life together - not simply attend and depart.
At heart, this is about securing the future of All Saints Cressing for generations to come. A building that is used is loved; a building that is unused gradually becomes disconnected from the community it was built to serve. Our hope and prayer is that these changes will ensure All Saints remains not only a cherished historic landmark, but a living church - accessible, welcoming, and well-used - for many years ahead.
Please do get in touch if you have any questions or feedback – we’d love to hear from you

"Reimagining All Saints Church: Have Your Say!"
Help shape the future of our church as a welcoming hub for all.
Our aim is to reorder the inside of All Saints Church to bring the building into the 21st Century, transforming it into a multi-use space for the whole community. We envision a church that is:
Welcoming: A place where everyone feels at home.
Accessible: Level access and facilities for all.
Versatile: A hub for worship, events, and gatherings every day.
Consultation Date: 25th February, Time: 19:30, Location: All Saints Church, Cressing
What We’re Proposing:
Adding essential facilities like toilets and a kitchen area.
Installing a screen, projector, and comfortable, movable seating instead of pews.
Creating level access for disabled parishioners and visitors.
Reconfiguring the space for modern worship and community use.
Your Input Matters!
Join us to share your thoughts and help shape this exciting transformation.
